Range Rules

General Range Rules

  • Long gun shooters under 18 years of age must have parental approval and be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times while on the range.

  • Be sure that your firearm is safe to operate and know how to operate it safely. Always keep your firearm unloaded, your finger off of the trigger and pointed in a safe direction until ready to shoot. Never hand a loaded firearm to another person.

  • Use only the correct ammunition for your firearm. If you have any questions, please consult a Range Officer.

  • No inexperienced shooters are allowed on any of the ranges without prior instruction, coaching, and approval of the Range Officer.

  • Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the property.

  • Individuals displaying the effects of, or thought to be under the influence of, drugs or alcohol will be prohibited from using any of the ranges.

  • Children must not be left unattended.

  • If unsafe behavior is noticed, then please make sure that the Range Officer is notified of such action immediately.

  • Please read and understand the Range Rules and Regulations before you proceed to any of the ranges. Please ask any of the Range Officers for clarification if you have any questions.

Sporting Clays and 5 Stand Rules

  • Always keep the action of your gun OPEN when walking to the range and in between the shooting stations. Only move with an unloaded gun with the action open.

  • Eye and ear protection must be worn at all times on the outdoor ranges.

  • Never shoot on a field when an orange cone is in the station or when a skeet house door is closed.

  • Do not load your gun until it is your turn to shoot. Unload immediately if a Range Officer tells you to do so or if you or another shooter has a malfunction.

  • Make certain that you are loading the proper ammunition. No ammunition faster than 1400 fps with a max load of 1-1/8 ounces.  7-1/2 to 9 shot only is permitted. Also, do not mix ammunition in your pockets or shell bag.

  • You may load two shells when on the sporting or 5-stand fields.  Any exceptions must be cleared with the Range Officer prior to shooting.

  • Keep the muzzle pointed in the air or downrange at all times. Never sweep the muzzle to the right or left toward other shooters.

  • Always place firearms in the gun racks when not shooting. Never lay your gun on the ground or put the muzzle in the grass or dirt.

Archery Range Policies and Procedures

  • Only authorized archers are permitted to use the archery ranges.

  • Texas Gun Ranch, at its discretion, may take any and all necessary action to assure the safe operation and use of its facilities.

  • Texas Gun Ranch membership cards must be visible and worn on one's person at all times while on the range.

  • Permitted Equipment: Longbow, Recurve or Compound bow. Full size Crossbow with minimum draw weight of 75 pounds. (Pistol style crossbow is not permitted). TGR reserves the right and has final decision on what may be permitted on the range.

  • Broadheads are allowed.

  • Personal equipment must be inspected by the individual and maintained for safe operation.

  • No firearms or hunting allowed.

  • No more than 15 arrows/bolts (one end) will be shot at each relay.

  • Relay time will not exceed 15 minutes.

  • All shooting will be from the marked firing line only.

  • Only straight in-lane shooting is permitted. No crossing shots, roving or clout.

  • When a "Cease Fire" is called, all arrows/bolts are to be removed from the bows and all bows are to be placed safely on a bow rack. Crossbows must have arrow/bolt removed and the safety engaged.

  • Once all bows are secured on a bow rack (crossbows not cocked and unloaded) and the firing line is declared "Clear", archers may enter the range to retrieve their arrows/bolts downrange.

  • When the firing line is declared "Hot", archers may retrieve their bows from the bow rack, approach the firing line, nock arrows/bolts and resume.

Pistol Range Operating Procedures

  • SAFETY is our #1 PRIORITY. Know and obey all range commands. They are important to your safety and the safety of others.

  • All firearms will be unloaded with the action open and magazines removed before entering or leaving the range. Unloaded firearms may be transported in gun case, with the actions closed.

  • All firearms will be placed on shooting benches with the muzzles pointed down range or in the rifle racks.

  • All shooters will remain behind the first red line, except when the range is cleared for shooting. The red warning lights will go off and the Range Safety Officer will announce "commence fire" allowing shooting to begin.

  • Shooting periods are normally 20 minutes long. There will be a 5 minute and a 1 (one) minute warning before a cease fire is called. Use this time to finish firing, unload your firearm and step behind the red line. Leave your firearm on the bench with the action open or removed.

  • When a cease fire is called remain behind the first red line until the red lights go on and the Range Safety Officer announces it is okay to change targets. Do not handle any firearm during the cease fire period.

  • During target change cease fires, place your paper target on the frame above the number frame matching your numbered shooting position. Do not place targets on posts, number boards or other devices or holders not provided by the club or approved by the Range Safety Officer.

  • Please try to clean up after yourself. Recycle your targets and put spent casings in the provided buckets. Brooms are provided to sweep up spent casings.

  • When the range is cleared, the Range Safety Officer will turn off the red lights and announce the “commence fire.” Then and only then may you proceed forward, load your firearm and begin firing.

100 Yard Rifle Range Operating Procedures

  • SAFETY is our #1 PRIORITY. Know and obey all range commands. They are important to your safety and the safety of others.

  • All firearms will be unloaded with the action open and magazines removed before entering or leaving the range. Unloaded firearms may be transported in gun case, with the actions closed.

  • All firearms will be placed on shooting benches with the muzzles pointed down range or in the rifle racks.

  • All shooters will remain behind the first red line, except when the range is cleared for shooting. The red warning lights will go off and the Range Safety Officer will announce "commence fire" allowing shooting to begin.

  • The range safety officers are here to support and assist you in having a safe and rewarding experience. Please seek them out; they are well trained and will answer any questions you may have about ammunition, weapons operations, and can clarify any questions you may have.

  • There is one Bunker Box with target for each station – each station has a iPad with Bullseye AmmoCam application on it, that app should be working and ready to use, if not please ask your range officer for assistance.

  • Please try to clean up after yourself. Recycle your targets and put spent casings in the provided buckets. Brooms are provided to sweep up spent casings.

  • EMERGENCY CEASE FIRE If an emergency cease fire is needed, it may be called and all shooters shall immediately cease fire and step behind the red line and remain there until the cease fire is cleared.
